Started receeding and then losing hair in the front 3rd when i was about 19yrs, i was getting fed up with trying to hide the loss at this time but i had plenty of hair to brush forward and it didnt look to bad...as long as it wasnt windy or i went swimming etc!
1997, 'advanced hair studios' lol...
I saw an advert in a magazine for 'advanced hair studio' so i went to see them in birmingham, the smarmy saleman said that he could easily solve my hairloss with one of their advanced hair 'units'.
So i turn up to advanced hair studio to have my unit fitted.....and suddenly realised that they had just sold me a f##king cheap WIG!
When i got home i removed it immediately it was totally unrealistic and definetly looked like a wig!
1997, HT#1
Later on i saw an advert for wellesbourne hair restoration near stratford upon avon, so i go along and see another smarmy salesman called mr barnes, who said that dr rogers could sort out my hairloss i was still only 19yrs at this time.
The day of the HT with dr rogers seemed to go ok, it was only about 300 mini and micro grafts, these seemed to grow in ok but they were widely spaced and didnt offer any coverage at all really. The scar was nearly impossible to find after this first HT.
1998,HT#2
I booked another HT with dr rogers to add some density and lower the hairline, he recommeded another 300 mini and micro grafts, he wasnt keen on lowering the hairline though. looking back this was a good thing.
The second HT with dr rogers went ok, after he had finished he said that he had done more than 300 grafts..... all these appeared to grow ok, i didnt seem to shed any grafts they just started growing.
The scar after HT#2 though was easy to find, as it was 6mm to 3mm, and about 10cm long.
After this HT i decided not to go back to rogers as i was afraid of getting an even bigger scar.
I started taking proscar and using minox just before having any HT work done, although i hadnt lost any hair in the crown it seemed to make my hair thicker but didnt help with the hairline etc.
Nearly10 Years later....
2007, going to Dr cole in june
I still have only lost hair in the front 3rd, the crown is still ok, i have been taking proscar nearly everyday, i did try dutasteride but it made me feel strange and didnt do anything for my hair anyway.
Dr roger's transplanted hair is still growing ok, but the hairline is to high and the mini and micro grafts a bit pluggy looking and thin, i use dermatch to help with the thinness. . i have my hair brushed forward so it covers the hairline & my high forehead.
Since having the internet in 2000, i have read a lot about hairloss, HT's etc, if only i had the net back in 1997!
I have decided to go to Dr Cole for my next HT using FIT, even though i already have a strip scar i dont want to risk having a larger one, my scar is easily covered with my hair cut at grade #6, but im still paranoid about it showing, i want Dr Cole to place grafts into the scar, hopefully these will grow.
The main reason im having another HT is to soften the hairline,and it needs lowering by about 1cm, as at the moment it is just slightly to high to look normal, i have never had a low hairline anyway and i dont think it would suit me.The rest of the grafts will go into the front 3rd to thicken it up.
HT at Dr Coles: 25/26/27 june 2007.
Ive been to dr cole for 2800 fue grafts, i let them shave my entire head as i know this makes it much easier for dr cole and his techs to do the HT without all the hair being in the way.
Unfortunately shaving my head meant exposing my strip scar from dr rogers crap work 11 years ago, dr cole placed some grafts into the scar, but im not sure its going to help with it much, i may get a scar revision or more fue into the scar if they grow ok.
I had 3 days at dr coles clinic in atlanta, it was quite tiring being sat there for 3 days in a row, fortunately the last day was slightly shorter.
I stayed in atlanta for a week after to recover from the HT and heal before i flew home to the UK.
Now the worst part, the waiting for growth to see if this has all been worth it.

8 months
Its been 8 months since my 2800 fue HT with dr cole, and things are continuing to improve, for the first time in years i feel i dont need dermatch in my hair to make it look ok which is a massive improvement! just the strip scar (from dr rogers) to sort out now, i'm hoping to fly over to atlanta for a scar revision in a month or two. |
