My Hair Loss History

Last updated on March 26, 2006

Started to notice frontal & mid scalp thinning at around age 34. Hairline remained quite intact, so the pattern did look quite odd...it's like a NW5/5A, but with a strong hairline presence, and small crown opening. Considered myself lucky making it this far, as my younger brother had lost most of his hair(NW7) in his late 20's.

Started clipping / shaving it at 36, which didn't look too bad, it concealed things ok, but it was still obvious to see that there was an empty thinning void up on top. And to be honest, it bothered me - I missed my head of hair. Started to notice the crown area open as well. Although the buzz cut worked, I still wanted something more, and started to ponder HT.

And now, at age 40, I've finally decided that I would like to do something about it, besides always keeping it buzzed very short. So HT was my solution.

1 Month later

The 1st month has been interesting, but has passed pretty fast. Much shedding between week 3 and 4, appears to be mainly the grafts, and very little shockloss if you can call it that. Redness has diminished, and it seems to blend in with the rest of the scalp. Still experiencing numbness at recipient area, but there are small spots where feeling has returned. Looking very pre-HT at this point, in terms of coverage.

Had a first haircut / trim to blend things a little...while concealing the scar. It is still red, and only a few scabs remain at the rear portion. Otherwise, aside from some itchyness & feeling tight at times, it seems to be healing well - hard to actually see it, as the hair growing through masks it quite well, but it is flat (a bit of a 'trench' feeling towards the sides, which is not worrying me), and symptom free for the most part. Will shave an area down to get a close look next month.

Now comes the waiting....
