My Hair Loss History

Last updated on November 23, 2004

I first noticed that I was losing it when I was around 25 years old...it was not a good feeling, but at least if I let my hair grow a bit longer, I could hide it. Then my friends started noticing it and I acted like it was no big deal & that if it got much worse I would just get it fixed. Boy am I glad I waited as that was back in the mid 1990s, things have come along way since then.

The years went by and I was getting sun burn in the summer - hurts when you comb it. I tried minoxidil...nothing, then I got some proscar over the internet, it seemed to help slow it down but no new growth.

Then I stopped that and started to use dermatch to help cover things up, but I could do much with the island of hair. The my little guy said that I have "little hair" (the island) - if a two and a half year old notices, then it was time to start looking into a solution.

In summer 2003 I started my research, I went to the local PAI office, they talk a good talk & reasuused me that I would be a good candidate for 7000 hairs. I left and thought some more, it just didn't feel right, the doctor wasn't there and they seemed to be more about hair pieces then transplants.

I hit the internet and found the Hair Transplant Network & Hair Loss Help. What a relief, lots of people to ask about things and a database of good doctors.

I reviewed the list, the results and the opinions of the members and narrowed it down to Dr Jones or H & W. Following consults with both, I felt better dealing with H & W as the were more willing to work with me and I liked the number they came back with - a 1 pass session.

My donor strip was about 1.45 cms by 25 cms. They managed to disect the strip into 4022 FUs made up of 1336 singles (.8 graft size), 2182 doubles (1 & 1.1 graft size) and 504 "bigs" (1.2 & 1.3 graft size).
