Gene therapy represents the ultimate cure for Androgenic Alopecia or genetically predisposed hair loss. Since our genes determine whether or not we will go bald, being able to modify the genes responsible will put a permanent end to hair loss. While scientists have made headway by identifying genes responsible for certain types of hair loss, gene therapy is still very much in the future.

Dr Elaine Fuchs
Researchers led by Dr Fuchs at the University of Chicago's Howard Hughes Medical Center, discovered a new approach to treating hair loss by using gene therapy. Scientists were able to successfully transform skin cells into hair follicles in lab mice through the introduction of a so-called messenger molecule containing the protein beta catenin.
