On
Friday evening we went to the Athenaeum Tennis Club which
overlooks the magnificent Zeus Temple and the Parthenon.
This was
the location for the formal farewell
dinner and presentation of the annual Phidias Awards.
The
Phidias awards are named after the great
sculptor Phidias who designed and oversaw
the stunning work on the Parthenon. The awards are presented
to doctors who have excelled with their research and scientific
contribution
to the field of hair transplantation.
After
a wonderful farewell dinner which was accompanied by live
classical music, DHI Chairman Mr.
Giotis presented the Gold,
Silver and Bronze Phidias Awards.
The
Phidias Award Winners for 2003 were as follows:
Bronze — Dr
Jimenez, for scientific contributions to the field.
Silver — Dr
Kabaker, for aesthetic and medical excellence.
Gold — Drs.
Cole and Rose, for outstanding efforts to advance the
field.
Afterwards
Dr. Cole asked for all of the doctors to come up front
and
praised them for their work in advancing medical hair
restoration. To my surprise I was also invited to join
them. I was never thought of as a journalist, but as a
contributing member to the conference. I am very grateful
for the opportunity I had to attend this event for all
of the scientific knowledge I gained and the friendships
I was able to develop.
Mr
Giotis also announced that next year's meeting will be
held during the first week
of June and
it
will
be
the Olympic
Aegean Masters
Meeting
2004 as it
will be followed by the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
They
plan on focusing it on the new FUE technique and presenting
the results of FUE surgeries. In addition
participants will be sailing to some of the
more famous Greek islands like Mykonos,
Santorini,
Rhodes
and
will
also stop in
Istanbul,
Turkey for
some
great shopping.
