I have a receding hairline, I am thinking about a HT to add more hair up front. Seems most of the pics I have seen of HTs on this site have been ones where individuals were receding at the temples and they had a HT to even out their hairline. For me my hair has been receding evenly, nothing extra at the temples.

What I need to know is should I have a new hairline or reinforce my existing one? Also, whichever path I take I will still have hair on top of my crown that will be receding. How much upkeep am I looking at? Can the doctor add to my hairline and plant grafts where I have existing hair on my crown?

Lastly I'm thinking about Cole in Atlanta, seems I have heard good and bad things about him on this site, hard to decide.

I would say that most transplants to the frontal region cover the entire width of the front, and not just the temples, so what you're looking for is nothing out of the ordinary.

Are you asking whether you should lower the hairline or just add density to your current, higher hairline? This really depends on what you want to get out of your transplant and what end result you will be happy with. It's never a bad idea to be conservative and plan for a mature hairline, but for some guys that isn't enough.

As for your crown, if you haven't lost any hair there yet, or not enough for there to be significant space to fill in, then you shouldn't touch that area at all. You will be unlikely to find a doctor who will plant grafts into a crown to pre-emptively cover loss which has yet to occur. That wouldn't be a sensible course of action at all as healthy hairs would be damaged.

you only have so many donor hairs. choose wisely and don't try to cover more area than is really possible. I've never lowered my hairline on any procedure. My goal is to keep the "mature" hairline and just fill it in so it looks good. I hate seeing these 25 year olds who lower their hairlines in the corners because they want the same hairline they had at 17. YOu know 95% of them are going to lose more hair as they age and might not have enough donor to cover what they need to have done.

Dhax, If the mild recession on your frontal hairline is very even and uniform, you may be just experiencing a transition into an adult hairline, which we all do to some extent. I would not lower it just because our donor is limited and none of us can predict how extensive our hairloss might be over the years. The best thing you could do for the crown right now would be to get on finasteride (Propecia). Putting grafts there right now could advance your hairloss in the crown. Best wishes to you.

Thanks for the info and advice guys. I will definitely keep in mind everything yall have said. If I do get a HT I will stick with a mature hairline, trying to get back the hairline I had when I was a teenager is probably too risky. I have two concerns primarily, one that it looks good, and two that as the years go by it continues to hold up.

I tried propecia in my mid 20s and it worked great I stopped losing hair and even grew some more in where there was none. Unfortunately the propecia lowered my sex drive and made me depressed and angry. I would wake up a lot of mornings mad at my family and go through the day being mad as well. I wish there was an alternative w/o the side effects.

Right now I am doing a lot of research on Shapiro, seems lots of people like him on this site. The pictures on his site seem to show he does good work. Has anyone heard anything bad about him?
