from SF to SYD for me was just over $1000 USD. I bought it on Travelocity 1 month in advance and flew on United non stop.

Travelocity.com, cheaptickets.com are good places to try.

Hotwire has good prices but you can't decide how many connections, or what time you will leave, etc. You put in your credit card info, THEN they give you your itinerary. There's no flexibility and no changing your mind, so I would skip Hotwire. You get the same good prices on the other two websites, so there's no reason to use them.

A thousand bucks roundtrip is a pretty good deal that is fairly common, with enough advance notice.

Please note:

It is a good practice to not have a connecting flight from your location to LAX. If your connecting flight gets delayed, you could miss the flight from LA to Sydney and it may foul up your arrival time to OZ. A direct flight from your location to LAX is the way to go.

Also, take out the flight insurance at a cost of $25.00 or so in case some unforseen event prevents you from getting to the airport.

I had some fun playing on Travlocity.com. I found the most affordable way to get there was connecting through Hawaii. I always wanted to see Hawaii so what better time than on a trip to Australia? Try this:

Your home to Burbank on cheapest airline.
Burbank to Honolulu on Aloha Air.
Honolulu to Sydney on cheapest airline.

Sometimes you have to book these separately to get the best rates.
So here's another trick. Find your best rates through Travelocity and take them to your travel agent. Ask him/her to match your internet prices. They usually will. Then you make one pmt and have one itinerary instead of three different ones.

A guy I worked with once flew non stop to Australia. He was miserable because of his back problems. I have back problems to so I definitely need a break between flights. I would plan a Hawaiian vacation for a few days before arriving in Australia.

Good luck!

Well, from the east coast -US- the cheapest fare i could find is $2400. Then I found one thru my school for $1700. If I would leave a wk earlier it'd only cost around $1200... if a wk later though it'd be around $4000. so it could be worse. I mean $1700 really sucks... had i known i would have booked woods for at a different date but oh well what are gonna do... thanks guys.

mid December... I really cant wait. I'm getting 600 grafts in my donor and 1200 grafts up top- so thats three days of surgery. And I am able to take 3 1/2 weeks off of school so I should have a good amount of time to heal before I go back. Hopefully I'll be able to go back to school undetected. I have a good amount of hair up top to cover up any new grafts placed

600 in the donor is a waste in my opinion if you are only getting 1200 up top. Most likely only 50-60% will grow and you can cover this area with existing hair. Why not use that 600 up top and if you are satisfied, go back for some donor scar work funds permitting?

Well, the donor scar is significant. And I have a lot of density up top- I really only need touched up at the hairline w/ extremely fine hairs. My donor scar upsets me the most and I feel that its a much bigger priority... besides, most likely I'll let Dr Woods assess the situation and tell me what he feels is in my best interest.
