Hi All,

I've seen loads of posts saying people use Nizoral and saw it when shopping in Tesco the other day...

It was about £5 and I thought I'd seen it for a lot more on ebay so thought it was something else...

It just stated it was anti-dandruff shampoo...is that the right stuff???

Here's the info from Tesco.com:
(It's nearly £6)

Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo 60ml

Ingredients
COCONUT FATTY ACID DIETHANOLAMIDE (3), DISODIUM MONOLAURYL ETHER SULPHOSUCCINATE (2), ERYTHROSINE (E127) (11), HYDROCHLORIC ACID (10), IMIDUREA (9), KETOCONAZOLE (4), LAURDIMONIUM HYDROLYSED ANIMAL COLLAGEN (5), MACROGOL 120 METHYLGLUCOSE DIOLEATE (6), PURIFIED WATER (12), SODIUM CHLORIDE (7), SODIUM HYDROXIDE (8), SODIUM LAURYL ETHER SULPHATE (1)

General information
Pack Size:
60 ML

Storage:
Store at or below 25 degrees C

Also, my regular shampoo is Pantene Pro-V. Anyone know if that 'Pro-Vitamin B5' stuff is actually anything good or
just commercial nonsense!?

It is the right shampoo but there are two different concentrations. There is 1% and 2% Ketoconazole and naturally the 2% version is a bit more effective. Look at the bottle and see what concentration it is. If it is the 2% version then it is a good price.

In the UK the 1% is called Nizorelle.

You can get a 100ml bottle of Nizoral from Boots for around £8, which works out cheaper. Ask for it at the in-store pharmacy. They allso do a Boots own-brand 2% for around £1 per bottle less, but it cr*ps up your hair.

Boots also does a "Specialist" range of treatments and shampoos that include itchy scalp pre-shampoo, shampoo and conditioner - these all contain Piroctone Olamine and cost around £3 for a good sized bottle.

Hi all,

Went to Tesco today and took a look at the Nizoral shampoo...

On the bottle it didn't state 2% but said ketoconazole 20mg/g.

It was £5.75 for 60ml.

They had a few behind the counter variants but they were the same strength.

It says it's up to 3 months treatment. I looked at the usage instructions and it says after 3-4 weeks to use only once every 1-2 weeks.

It says 'do not use more often than directed' in bold letters though...?
Is it really safe to use constantly 3 times a week?

It's funny, I spoke to the head pharmacist bloke saying it was to help with hairloss and he said he had no idea of that and was adiment it was only for dandruff treatment...!

I think 2 times a week is enough especially considering the high price for that little tube.

I'm not sure about the long-term sideeffects since I have just started using it but I haven't read about anyone reporting any longrun harm and I guess that it is easy to notice if it causes any harm to the scalp.
