I have been on propecia and rogaine for about a year. I stopped rogaine to see if the propecia would keep the existing hairs, and sure enough after about 2-3 months, I started shedding alot. Before, I would barely notice any shedding at all. Part of it also could have been the shedding of my hair was all on the same schedule since I started both treatment about the same time. Anyway, I started up rogaine again and added in nizoral, which has definitely helped the flaking, and also lysine. Of course I kept shedding for weeks after starting rogaine again, so I look terrible.

My question is, since I am shedding alot, either from stopping Rogaine, starting it again, or both, shouldn't that mean that all that hair is starting to grow again? From everything I read, shedding isn't really causing you to go bald, its just part of the growth cycle. Thanks guys.

the hairs programmed to fall out in an MPB-styley will become dependent on minoxidil so, after stopping, some of the hairs shed may not return to how they were, but certainly if you have started it again then they should eventually reappear again, you just might need to give it a bit more time

This is true. You bald as the hairs gradually miniaturize and the growth cycle shortens. If you are back on Rogaine, you should be able to regain everything you lost in the last few months. Good choice on adding nizoral. Emu oil is something you might also consider adding. It will help with flaking and with the irritation from minox. It may also aid in the absorption.

Topicals: Once daily - mixed in shot glass

Other: Laser comb (3x weekly)

Thanks for the advice. Where can I get Emu Oil? Actually, I think I saw a thread about that somewhere, so I will look for it. Also, I recently bought tea tree shampoo. Its paul mitchell, and I like it, but I noticed it has both SLS's in it. I am only using it a couple times a week as part of my rotation. Do you think the SLS will hurt my hair? I have only used it a couple of times so far, so I can't tell yet from experience.

By the way, Nizoral has helped my scalp so much. I have only had it a few weeks and can already tell the difference. The scalp irritation was the original reason I quit rogaine in the first place.

You're welcome. You can get emu oil online or you can buy it in some health stores.

Emu oil made a HUGE difference for me. Even more so then nizoral (although that is a great product too). I don't think I could go back to rogaine without emu oil.

SLS can be drying to the hair. Aside from the potential drying effects of SLS, it isn't damaging to the hair or scalp. Don't worry about that. If you like the shampoo and it doesn't dry your hair out, I'd keep using it. I'm not a huge fan of Paul Mitchell products personally, but I have naturally dry hair so I'm very picky about what I use.

Hi Craig.....As for regrowth if you get on minox and stay on it you should gradually get back those hairs previously lost due to quitting minox, also consider that.....it took a while for your hair to get in the "bad shape" its in long before your considered treatment.

So you have to allow ample time if not longer to "re-establish" those hairs due to the onslaught of MPB,so......be patient get you some Emu Oil apply it either before or mix it with minox(in a seperate container)prior to application!

As for Shampoo's dont sweat SLS's too much!Get some nizoral and if you can afford it get some "NANO"w/proxiphen-N

Good Luck........thinningnugget
