Hey guys,

I've recently noticed that my hair no longer feels that smooth/silky, and has a sort of dry/split/strawlike feel to it. Thing is, I'm not sure whether it's actually been like this for a while and I just never noticed or whether it's only recent. I started using Nizoral 2% a week or two ago, and my hair is highlighted blond. Could the strawlike/dry texture be:

-a direct result of Nizoral use?
-an effect of the Nizoral on the chemical used to colour my hair? (it does mention in the Nizoral leaflet that it may not be best to use it on coloured hair)
-something else completely?

If it is a result of the Nizoral does it mean it's affecting my scalp badly?

And whilst we're on the subject of Nizoral - I've read it can cause thinning/loss. Firstly, how common is this? Secondly, is it something that will recover if you stop use? And how do you really know? I'm paranoid about things anyway so often it's impossible for me to tell whether something's got worse or whether it's stayed the same and I'm just imagining it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

a little bit of nizoral is all you need.. dont use it everyday, dont use it with hot water and always condition with an alcohol free conditioner (Jason's T2T works for me)

Nizoral AD contains some pretty harsh stuff. Go to Dr lee's 2% Keto version and is not as harsh. Use every other day.

What's nizoral AD?

-------------------------
2% Nizoral shampoo every 3 days
Zix twice a day (back on it)
Polysorbate80 once or twice a day
Folligen spray (diluted with distilled water)

Nizoral 1%.

Anyway, I use Nizoral 2% every third day, which is plenty, and the Nioxin Cleanser and Scalp Therapy which is a gentle and nourishing shampoo and conditioner. On Nizoral days, I just rinse with the Cleanser (repeat on non-Nizoral days) and apply the Scalp Therapy after Nizoral. It works great for me that way, removing initial dirt and grime, blasting the scalp with Nizoral and then instant revitalisation. By far the best shampoo and conditioner regimen I’ve found.

When I tried a heavy rotation of strong anti dandruff shampoos , I too got the hair straw texture effect. I was rotating coal tar , Niz, Piroctone Olanimine, Salicyclic Acid, Tea Tree oil , Zinc Pyrithione .... It dried out my scalp drastically... .

The hair texture change scared me and I dropped the ultra intense anti dandruff routine ....

I still use anti dandruff shamopoos but now I am picky

Good luck......

Thanks for the replies. I tried a different shampoo last night, garnier fructis for coloured/highlighted hair and I instantly got that silky feeling back. BUT, it's not a bit strawlike again. Can't expect one wash with this stuff to change that, though.

A few questions:

Should I wash my hair with cold water if using Nizoral? I never realised you weren't supposed to use warm water.
Is it OK to use this other shampoo (that makes my hair feel nice) after Nizoral application? Or will it negate the effect of the nizoral?
If Nizoral is so harsh, isn't it damaging the hair?

I generally leave the Nizoral on for about 5 mins and then rinse. I occasionally use a conditioner but don't know what it contains, chemical wise.
