I don't understand why rogaine foam is any worse than the regular application(which I don't know much about). Could someone elaborate?

Evidently, the foam penetrates / absorbs into the scalp much better then the regular Minoxidil. People who start using the foam experience more or faster shedding compared to the old liquid type of Minoxidil. Possibly they even start using the foam on their hairlines, lose a-lot of hair and get discouraged then quit the foam.

I have nothing but good things to say about the foam. Unlike the liquid which took a full hour to dry, the foam is dry within minutes.

it causes you to shed in ridiculous/shocking amounts... im at the 3month mark and the area's i have applied to have almost completely shedded out

it is discouraging, but I will push through and hope for regrowth

the foam is easy to apply and dries quickly.

I think everyone needs to commit to a product for a year before making any decisions on results and photos are a necessity too of course.

Peter..are you using the foam currently..if so how have your results been...im a diffuse thinner who tried rogain 5% in the initials phases of my hairloss...i used it for a month and had to quit do to horrible scalp irritations...im thinking about giving foam a try just on my vertex area...this would probably be my worst balding area that has been thinning for the longest...but also i hear itz the best place for results...my logic of just using back there is to test the product out and see if i will be a responder...and also it is thin back there right now so the shedding should be kept to a mininmum while i gage the results...my hair is so diffusely thin that i ahoribble shed would no doubt cause me to give up...

I've been on the foam since November and have nothing but good to say about it. It dries quickly,it's easy to apply and (best of all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) it's improved my temples a bit.

The foam has a lot of cosmetic benefits. As others, I have experience a ridiculous shed though. I have been using treatments for 6 years and never seen anything like this. While I won't make a decsision till the year mark, this is the first time I have almost thrown in the towel on a product.

It's discouraging as well because I have a couple of weddings to go to next month and things aren't looking very good right now.

I started the foam in 10/06. I've counted at least 100 new hairs since I started the foam. I probably have thicker hair all over. However, I am norwood 5v--i am pretty bald. Thus, I need 6,000 follicular units to really look good again! Does Rogaine Foam work? Absolutely. Does it grow new hair? Absolutely. Is it going to grow 6,000 new follicles for me? Absolutely NOT. It's a good treatment if your expectations are reasonable.

im at 4months of proscar 1.25mg/day and 3months of minox foam (usually 1x a day, sometimes 2x if im not leaving the house)

my overall hair is thicker and healthier (due to the fin im assuming), but the area's in which i've applied or am currently applying the foam have shed incredibly... in some cases (right temple) to baldness...

i hope for a recovery... soon !

ive had a rollercoaster of an experience thus far. All i used was foam so i got a good read on it.

1st 4 months: nothing to report
month 5: i barely shed and my hair looks better. The foam kicks ass! I happily report my results to the forum
month 6: massive shed. Hair looks worse then when i started. I hate the foam
now:no improvement

I haven't had quite the excellent results on foam that I had on liquid (equate) minox..............but the results have been very good.

OTOH I haven't had the horrible itching on foam that I had on liquid minox.........so foam is the better of the two

Marcules:

Its not worse in my opinion. Some folks have to understand that ITS THE SAME 5% MINOX! No matter what they say,
it's just plain ole' minox, except that its being carried out in a foam vehicle, rather than a liquid vehicle. It's not like the
foam has ingredients that are vastly different from the liquid version. ITS THE SAME 5% MINOX, but oh, with a different
fragrance! So just through knowing this fact alone, one should understand that it is unlikely, or better yet, impossible
for it to be a possibility that the foam version of minox is worse than the liquid.

My take on it at least...

The last batch of photos i took date back to feb 06. I didnt take any before starting the foam. But my hair hadnt changed much since.

I could take some pics now and show you before and after shots, but there would be a 1+ year diff in the pics

because spectral cost $36 a bottle. If i was about 11 dollars less, im sure they would sell much more of it and still profit well from it.

I've been on the foam for 2 months and I am experiencing the worst shed in my life. I can't believe how bad my hair looks, it has been decimated in a matter of 2 months.

I've been treating my hairloss for 4 years now, and I am a long term user. I don't switch every few months or weeks like so many here do. But I've never seen anything like this. I was in pretty good shape before this, now I'm seriously considering throwing in the towel and shaving it. Don't know what to do, I guess I'll try to stay on it for a little longer.

Shiny Temples:

You've only been using it for 2 MONTHS. Imagine if folks whined and moaned about Propecia being ineffective only after using it for a mere 2 months?
Sure, you may be experiencing "the worst shed" but that most likely means that you are responding significantly better to the treatment than when
you were just using the liquid. Remember, and keep this in mind, and say it to yourself loudly -- THE FOAM IS JUST 5% MINOX! Therefore, its the same
exact thing as the liquid version. The only difference is the delivery vehicle, in that its delivered as a foam for the scalp to absorb it better.

It's not like the foam consists of completely different ingredients than the liquid version. Why people cant seem to grasp this concept? I cant fathom.
Except that, too many get scared sh*tless once a shed happens, which is a bit understandable. But I mean, sometimes you guys can get ridiculous.

Well you have to understand that in my case I went from a NW 2.5 to a NW 3 in a matter of 4 years, not bad maintenance. Now in the last 2 months I've gone from a NW 3 to a NW 4. To lose so much so drastically is very disconcerting. Many others are experiencing the same exact thing.

Like I said, I'm a long term user and I'll give it some time, but obviously the foam is doing something to cause this. I'm just bummed that I have to look forward to a crappy summer now and if by chance I do recover, I won't see the results for another 6 months at minimum.
