hey, i am curious if any of you went through this.. two weeks after starting propecia, my entire perfect hairline began rapidly thinning in a NW3 fashion.. in 3 weeks, i lost 40% density.. I am now on my 4.75 month on propecia, and my hairline thining def slowed down, but am noticing that hte remainder of my frontal regoin, is getting thinner and thinner.. the rest of my head seems to only 'slighty' worse since starting treatment, but not terribly worse..

is this normal? is it possble for me to recover my once perfectly thick hairline? or at least have a slight recovery and stop the thinning?

i am at an end of my rope guys.. just recently, i fell in love with my best gf.. she remembers my hair about 5 months ago when it was still thick/blonde.. now, i am terrrified about her noticing my dark/ terribly thinning hair...

let me just say this....

3 months after i started propecia people said things like "wow your so bald" and "going with the comb over look?"....exact words .

now, people comment when we talk about hair. One of the kids around here is almost completely bald. Whenever his name is mentioned they talk about how it sucks that he is going bald at age 21( he is almost completely bald, just peach fuzz), which starts up 'the balding' conversation. My name doesnt even come up. Everyone says my hair looks normal now.

my hair has thickened up a lot in the past year thanks to minox and propecia. The top was about 50% less dense than the sides. Now its about 20-25% less dense. Sure, i look in the mirror sometimes and see thin spots. It's not as thick as the sides and i can see the hairloss pattern very well when my hair is wet. Although when my hair is dry it is hard for others to see i am losing hair.

propecia works...and it works very well for most men. Most people either don't understand or don't listen when their doctor tells them it takes a long time to see any results. They're right too...takes about a year to see results. But believe me when i say this.... -everyone- goes through some sort of shed and a period of disbelief in their first year. The days pass...hair begins to look better. More days pass...hair looks the same. Years pass....hair looks the same. Your hair would look -much- worse in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years if you didnt use propecia.

Propecia really is a wonder pill and most people on these boards underestimate it. It certainly does not cure hairloss but it fights it harder than anything else and does a good job at it.

Are you sure it was an FPB pattern and not a Norwood pattern? As far as I can tell the only difference is in FPB there is no thinning at the hairline but is immediately behind it. It is possible that your hairloss was not MPB and you are causing more harm than good, but it is also possible that you would have lost that hair anyway and any maintenance/regrowth you see from now on is due to your regimen. If you could see how much my hair thinned out in 3-4 months(mpb pattern) on no treatment you would understand that hairloss can be ridiculously fast. Less than a year ago I had a hair stylist say I'd never go bald and back in February I had a stylist thin the top which is where it is falling out the fastest. It is impossible for any of us to beable to tell you what the case is. Perhaps the best thing you can do is go to a really good derm and get your shit checked out thoroughly so you can get some piece of mind.

how can i do more harm than good on the big three? it is true that i did see the most thinning right behind the hairline... however, a year ago i had thinning in the typical 'baldspot'... in the past 4 months, i begain to develop MPB... very quickly... i'm sure the big three can help me....

Listen to him, jfrank. Good advice. This stuff takes time, ALL treatments generally require at LEAST 6 months to see results. At least. Hair count is a volatile thing, you're naturally going through sheds and growth periods at all times. Adding treatments simply deepens that roller coaster, your sheds may be more severe but you end up growing back more hair... no treatment will just grow all your hair back without a bump.
