I did a seach on the web, and on other forums, but those cases were different from mine, so i apoligze if any author has to repeat him/hersefl on thsi topic. I am a 19 yr old male, of asiatic descent, and with NO family history of MPB or FPB.

I learned only af the hair thinning side efect accutane has from my pharmicist, as my doctor did not mention it. I was on accutane for a short 3 months, and have discontinued the drug for 3 months+1week now. My hairthinning, and receding hairline for those first 3 months off the drug were very demoralizing, as even my eybrows were thinning, and other bodily hair (although not thinning), came out in the shower really easily. For those three months after I stopped using accutane, my scalp still suffered the effects of accutane, namely my hair was limp, and thin (and thinning), and breaking at the shaft sometimes, and my scalp was dry, scaly, terribly itchy, and had little red spots (that had no pus) all over.

I went to see my General Practicioner (who is reluctant to give me the referral to dermatologist, that I begged for), he said I was suffering from male pattern baldness, and that the red spots were a result of stress. He perscribed a powerful corticosteroid (Mometasone Furoate) to releive my itching, said nothing could be done about the hair, and sent me on my way- with no refferal (which I asked for). The drug hlped a bit with the itching, but ultimately I just touhged it out.

I phoned many different pharmacists, and they all told me not to worry, as drugs derived from vitamin a may have hairloss side effects that continue on for 3-6 months, and assured me my hair had a high likelyhood of regrowing. They explained to me that my scalp was just SO dry, it could barely support hair growth, and hold the existing follicles in place, and that the red bumps may also be due to the extreme dryness (really really dry, so dry that it stung at one point just shampooing, and stung when using hairspray)

Well, this is the 3month+1week time mark, and finally the itching, and dryness is subsiding (although I did use a zinc anti-shampoo 3 times last week). My hair is returning to it's original pigmentation, and is getting thicker, and at the moment looks like it's on it's way to beign normal.

(FInally ) My question is whether or not my receeded hairline will retake the ground it lost? My hairline at the front, and temple region receeded a bit. For the this entire time I've been off accutane, I can see exactly where my old hairline used to be, becuase where there is supposed to be hair, remains black peachfuzz. The black peach fuzz hasn't turned into hair as I know it yet, but is noticibly different from other peachfuzz on my body due to the black pigmentation. How do i tell if this is MPB? or reversible alopecia due to the accutane drug? If it's MPB oh well, just gotta accept it I guess. But GP was very unhelpful, and dimissive. at least my skin is fine now.

Oh yeah, i forgot to mention, if it's of any importance, I was only on 50mg accutane/day.

Hi I don't have any experience with accutane, but from what I've read here on the board about it, 50mg is actually quite a high dose. Anyway it looks like you will recover, since the hair is still pigmented and improving.

Just wait it out, you'll be fine in a couple of months.
