All right everyone, I am new to the forum and let me tell you my story of how my hair loss began. My hair loss was caused by well... MYSELF. Crazy as it sounds I at the age of 18 upped my DHT levels not knowing that in turn it would begin the downfall for my great head of hair. I have no history of baldness in my family. No uncles, not my grandfather on either side and neither of my parents.... So yes it is completely my fault. I believe this means I should be able to reverse my hair loss which as of right now is just temple recession but also entire thinning of the head. My hair was so thick though that the only thing noticeable is the slight recession and even that isn't noticeable unless your really looking. I was wondering if anyone would have any idea if my situation is different since I caused the upping of the DHT or does it just not make a difference.

The fact is that hairloss is not well understood by the medical community so you kind of have to do your own research and try to find some treatments that will work for you. My best guess is you have a good shot at reversing the damage you've caused to this point if start treating your hairloss immediately. Many on this forum will tell to first try the big 3: Nizoral shampoo, minoxidil, and finasteride but those can often lead to unwanted side-effects. You can see what I'm currently using by my signature and decide it that's something you want to try. Best of luck.

The treatments listed above do NOT OFTEN cause side effects.
Its actually quite the opposite.

i dont know how you "upped your dht" but it doesnt matter. your dht could read off the charts and you still wouldnt loose a single hair. The problem is androgen receptor sensitivity to DHT. You have the gene to loose your hair.
everyone who is loosing hair for the most part have normal dht levels we dont loose it cause are dht levels are too high.
so yah your loosing you hair bud.
the drugs available can lower dht levels so not as much attaches to the androgen receptors. how ever your 18 and i strongly suggest your DO NOT go near these drugs. as
you are going through puberty and you can ***** your self up in the long run.
your best option is topicals. With the right topicals and consistent application you should maintain what you have for the next years to come. by then there will be a cure or you can jump on those no no drugs i told you about (finastride)

I disagree, it has never been shown that finasteride is harmful for 18 yr olds....but we can continue on the "finasteride is plutonium" theme.

^^ you need DHT during your puberty stage.
So what do you think suppressing it at a time his body needs it is going to do for him ?

I took a bunch of supplements that when taken together turn testosterone into DHT.

Well I am a living experiment that DHT levels DO MATTER. I had not even the slightest bit of recession of the hairline 1.5 years ago and today my hair has diffused on top and my hairline is going back and it didn't begin until a couple months after I took a selection of supplements that turned my testosterone into DHT.

By age 18, your puberty is nearly over....There are guys on here who have taken it at a younger age than 18 and done fine.

dude im not blowing smoke up your ass.
You have the genetics to loose hair. it has nothing to do with having high levels of dht.
Sorry im not going to say "nothing". higher level of dht can increase how rapid you loose your hair.
But these are hairs you will loose down the line regardless of what ever it is you did that you think you did to cause your hair loss.

Dumbass. There is literally zero evidence it is harmful to someone at age 18. Further example of the stupidity that surrounds fin bashers.

Yourself, are you an idiot or just intentionally trolling? To the OP: There is no evidence that fin is harmful for men 18-25. But the resident armchair dermatologist knows everything here.

he took fin at an early age and claims he feels alittle less manly at 27.
