The after photo was taken following 6 weeks of using the Clearskincare Novaderm Skin & Scalp Roller and minoxidil. The treatment regime was once a day, approximately 3 minutes of rolling followed by 1ml of 5% minoxidil applied to the area rolled and massaged into the scalp.

This is different from Lipoxidils Dermaroller. The Novaderm needles are 0.75mm long compared to the Lipoxidil version whose needles were 0.13mm long. Therefore, the Novaderm penetrates almost 6 times deeper.

Lipoxidil got their Dermaroller from a German company called Dermaroller HERE.




I used the original Lipoxidil Dermaroller when it first came out a few years ago. it didn't work well for me. Perhaps the deeper penetrating version may be better ?

So its possible that systemic absorption may be increased by "needling". This is definately something that needs to be considered when using with Minoxidil due to increased side effects.

Dermaroller have recently (2006) published a study confirming that "needling" triggers new collagen fibers, new melanozyts, stimulates re-vascularization, hair growth even in scars (Camirand), re-pigments stretch marks, fills depressed acne scars, softens scars and so on.

NEEDLE LENGTH:

The theory expounded by some ‘experts’ that the longer the needle the better, is not supported by the scientific evidence! After evaluation of all of the biopsies in Dr Schwarz’s study, new collagen fibers were only found close to the corium and not deeper than 0.5 to 0.6 mm. Although the Dermaroller model MF8 has 1.5 mm long needles, no significant new collagen and elastin formation could be found in the sub-dermal tissue.

CONCLUSION

Quality needles do not damage the skin in the sense of a classical injury. The pricking channels close within 60 to 90 minutes and infections therefore are unlikely. In contrary to new laser devices such as Fraxel that beam penetrate the skin as much as 600 to 700 µm, the Dermaroller needles induce new cell formation exactly where it is needed, right in the corium."

now i saw that the growth was from minoxidil!
I thought that the regrowth was from the dermaroller "holes" alone...

yes, i'm giving it a go. my lipoxidil dermaroller didn't do anything a few years back but that was only 0.13mm deep. This is 0.75mm deep, almost 6 times deeper.

i desperately need help along my hairline so i will try this new version with my Spectral DNC . you can be sure i'll be watching out for any increased absorption/systemic side effects.

I would be very careful, using spectral dnc with that roller, spectral already goes much deeper that standard alcohol minox. I hope it works for you chrome, i may try it to. How do you think it compares to all these guys here poking holes in there head with a needle ? there was alot of hype when it all started, seems to have died out.

How long do you suppose you can you use it before the needles get dull and it needs to be replaced?

I'm 5 months post-op and really interested in getting one myself, although I'm nervous that it could interfere... Anyone have any insight on that?

Also, does anyone know how often you have to buy another one, because I imagine the needles get dull after a certain amount of use.

This is a thread of great interest to me and hope a few out there are giving this a try. I have found that jabbing a scar with a toothpick has made a great improvement in the appearance of the scar. It's hardly noticeable anymore after about 10 sessions of 5 minutes, over about a month. I'm hoping that the effect of scalp jabbing with a toothpick might offer the same benefit as the needle roller. I'll keep you posted if I see anything positive over the next few months. I've also just started Spectral DNC.

How do I maintain the Dermaroller ? How long can I use the Dermaroller ?

The needles will become blunt after several months of use. We recommend to use a new roller after 3-4 months. To keep the roller germ free we recommend to keep the head in isopropyl alcohol all the time. The roller comes with a special box which can be used for that. Just fill in enough alcohol to cover the head. Shortly before use just rinse the head with water. The roller can and should be washed in a regular dishwasher every 7 days. The high water temperature and the detergents are ideal to clean the roller head. Maintaining a clean head is especially important if you use the roller for creamy substances like MGF, Spirolotion or simular...
