Before and After Photos 1 & 2

The after photo was taken following 6 weeks of using the Clearskincare Novaderm Skin & Scalp Roller and minoxidil. The treatment regime was once a day, approximately 3 minutes of rolling followed by 1ml of 5% minoxidil applied to the area rolled and massaged into the scalp.

Before and After Photos 3 & 4

The after shot shows phenomenal regrowth of hair in the fringe and temple areas, areas where Minoxidil is typically not expected to stimulate regrowth. The after shot was taken following a 3 month treatment regime of rolling once a day, using the Clearskincare Novaderm Skin & Scalp Roller, for approximately 3 minutes followed by 1ml of 5% minoxidil applied to the area rolled and massaged into the scalp. As you can see this is a fantastic result and the roller is still totally effective when used on longer hair.

Hi, my name is Dr Philippa McCaffery.

I am a Cosmetic Physician practicing in Sydney, Australia and my practice specialises in non invasive, effective and affordable solutions for everyday skin problems like Acne, Skin Aging, Acne Scarring and Hair loss.

I have been performing Skin Needling for 4 years to treat acne scars and deep lines. I was taught the technique of Skin Needling by a French Dermatologist, who has been performing Skin Needling for 20 years via a technique called Electroridopuncture. He suggested Needling of the scalp was very helpful in stimulating hair regrowth. About 12 months ago, I began trialing one of our Skin Rollers on a thinning scalp, in conjunction with Minoxidil, to see if we could enhance hair regrowth.

The results were extraordinary. As you know, Minoxidil is the only clinically proven way to stimulate hair regrowth. The downside of Minoxidil is that you have to apply it twice a day and there is rarely any new hair growth for the first 3 months. Consequently, many people grow discouraged and give up using Minoxidil before it has had a chance to work.

Our Hair Restoration Scalp Roller (Novaderm Skin & Scalp Roller) offers a safe, effective and affordable way to maximise the beneficial results of Minoxidil. Best of all, results can be achieved within 4-6 weeks with daily scalp rolling and a single application of Minoxidil.

How does it work?
The Novaderm Skin & Scalp Roller (needle length 0.75mm, gauge 0.25mm) is an instrument consisting of a heavy duty plastic roller head covered in 48 highest quality stainless steel acupuncture needles. The Hair Novaderm Skin & Scalp Roller has three separate actions on the scalp. The needles are designed to penetrate the stratum corneum, the hard outer surface of the epidermal layer of the scalp. Hundreds of tiny channels are created through the stratum corneum, which facilitate the passage and absorption of Minoxidil into the dermis to maximize it’s absorption by the hair follicles.

The Novaderm Skin & Scalp Roller also stimulates blood flow to the hair follicles via direct scalp massage. The third action of the Hair Restoration Scalp Roller is to gently exfoliate excess skin cells which accumulate in the hair follicles, contributing to hair follicle malnutrition and ultimately hair follicle failure and permanent hair loss.

Does it hurt?
The needles of the Novaderm Skin & Scalp Roller are long enough to assist in the penetration of Minoxidil, but will not damage the scalp in anyway. It is normal for the scalp to be a little sensitive when scalp rolling is first commenced, but most people report no problems after 1 week. Always use the Novaderm Skin & Scalp Roller gently at first, increasing the pressure on the roller as you become accustomed to the sensation of scalp rolling.

Can the Hair Restoration Scalp Roller be used for women and as well as men?
Definitely. Women can use the Novaderm Skin & Scalp Roller alone or in conjunction with Minoxidil.

Are there any side effects?
Unlike many other hair loss treatments, which require oral supplements with unknown potential side effects, the Novaderm Skin & Scalp Roller does exactly what it promises, by enhancing the penetration of Minoxidil and improving blood flow to the scalp and hair follicle.

How can I obtain Minoxidil?
Minoxidil can be readily obtained from pharmacies in Australia and throughout the world. If you need any assistance in obtaining Minoxidil, please contact me via drphilippa@clearskincare.com.au If you have any questions about the Hair Restoration Skin Roller or hail loss please contact me via drphilippa@clearskincare.com.au

It is recommended the Novaderm Skin & Scalp Roller is used by one person only.

This is different from Lipoxidils Dermaroller. The Novaderm needles are 0.75mm long compared to the Lipoxidil version whose needles were 0.13mm long. Therefore, the Novaderm penetrates almost 6 times deeper.

The Lipoxidil Dermaroller is HERE.

Lipoxidil got their Dermaroller from a German company called Dermaroller HERE.

I used the original Lipoxidil Dermaroller when it first came out a few years ago. it didn't work well for me. Perhaps the deeper penetrating version may be better ?

Rogaine 5% Data sheet

"Following topical application, minoxidil is poorly absorbed from normal intact skin, with an average of approximately 1.7% of the total applied dose ultimately reaching the systemic circulation."

So its possible that systemic absorption may be increased by "needling". This is definately something that needs to be considered when using with Minoxidil due to increased side effects.

Dermaroller have recently (2006) published a study confirming that "needling" triggers new collagen fibers, new melanozyts, stimulates re-vascularization, hair growth even in scars (Camirand), re-pigments stretch marks, fills depressed acne scars, softens scars and so on.

STIMULATION OF CELL GROWTH by "Needling" - 2006

NEEDLE LENGTH:

The theory expounded by some ‘experts’ that the longer the needle the better, is not supported by the scientific evidence! After evaluation of all of the biopsies in Dr Schwarz’s study, new collagen fibers were only found close to the corium and not deeper than 0.5 to 0.6 mm. Although the Dermaroller model MF8 has 1.5 mm long needles, no significant new collagen and elastin formation could be found in the sub-dermal tissue.

"6 weeks after micro-needling. Collagen and elastin fibers are increased by 1000% and to a depth of 0,5 to 0,6 mm"

CONCLUSION

"Although we do not know much about the mechanisms of the Dermaroller and how its needles induce such a dramatic amount of collagen in a short session that only lasts 20 to 30 minutes. But we have scientific proof that the needling procedure triggers new collagen fibers, new melanozyts, stimulates re-vascularization, hair growth even in scars (Camirand), re-pigments stretch marks, fills depressed acne scars, softens scars and so on. Quality needles do not damage the skin in the sense of a classical injury. The pricking channels close within 60 to 90 minutes and infections therefore are unlikely. In contrary to new laser devices such as Fraxel that beam penetrate the skin as much as 600 to 700 µm, the Dermaroller needles induce new cell formation exactly where it is needed, right in the corium."

now i saw that the growth was from minoxidil!
I thought that the regrowth was from the dermaroller "holes" alone...

PS.

chemical,

yes, i'm giving it a go. my lipoxidil dermaroller didn't do anything a few years back but that was only 0.13mm deep. This is 0.75mm deep, almost 6 times deeper.

i desperately need help along my hairline so i will try this new version with my Spectral DNC . you can be sure i'll be watching out for any increased absorption/systemic side effects.

fingers crossed.

I would be very careful, using spectral dnc with that roller, spectral already goes much deeper that standard alcohol minox. I hope it works for you chrome, i may try it to. How do you think it compares to all these guys here poking holes in there head with a needle ? there was alot of hype when it all started, seems to have died out.

How long do you suppose you can you use it before the needles get dull and it needs to be replaced?

I'm 5 months post-op and really interested in getting one myself, although I'm nervous that it could interfere... Anyone have any insight on that?

Also, does anyone know how often you have to buy another one, because I imagine the needles get dull after a certain amount of use.

This is a thread of great interest to me and hope a few out there are giving this a try. I have found that jabbing a scar with a toothpick has made a great improvement in the appearance of the scar. It's hardly noticeable anymore after about 10 sessions of 5 minutes, over about a month. I'm hoping that the effect of scalp jabbing with a toothpick might offer the same benefit as the needle roller. I'll keep you posted if I see anything positive over the next few months. I've also just started Spectral DNC.

I found this on the FAQ page http://www.lipoxidil.com/site/dermaroller_faq.htm at the bottom of http://www.lipoxidil.com/site/derma.php (It also talks about the supposed optimum needle length for the delivery of anti-hairloss drugs.)

How do I maintain the Dermaroller ? How long can I use the Dermaroller ?

The needles will become blunt after several months of use. We recommend to use a new roller after 3-4 months. To keep the roller germ free we recommend to keep the head in isopropyl alcohol all the time. The roller comes with a special box which can be used for that. Just fill in enough alcohol to cover the head. Shortly before use just rinse the head with water. The roller can and should be washed in a regular dishwasher every 7 days. The high water temperature and the detergents are ideal to clean the roller head. Maintaining a clean head is especially important if you use the roller for creamy substances like MGF, Spirolotion or simular...
